When Xander Schauffele carded a record-equalling 62 in the opening round of the 106th US PGA Championship, the jokes soon followed. “Schauffele staking his claim for 2nd place” read a typical post on social media, one of many variations on a theme which took aim at Schauffele’s reputation for failing to convert leads into victories. Three days later it was Schauffele who had the last laugh as he secured his first major title with a wire-to-wire victory at Valhalla in a record total of 21 under par. Xander Schauffele hugs his caddie Austin Kaiser after winning the US PGA Championship…

Perennial golfing bridesmaid Xander Schauffele finally added a major trophy to his Olympic gold medal and seven PGA Tour titles after winning the 108th PGA Championship with a superb front-running performance, sealing the deal with a 72nd hole birdie. A week after letting slip a two-shot lead in the final round at the Wells Fargo, the 30-year-old American took the same advantage onto the back nine at Valhalla Golf Club, but this time he held his nerve, claiming his maiden major title with a pressure packed six-foot putt to deny the charging Bryson DeChambeau the chance of a play-off. He…
Nelly Korda held off Hannah Green at the Mizuho Americas Open to claim her sixth win in her last seven starts on the LPGA Tour. The world number one, who had won on five consecutive victories before last week’s Cognizant Founders Cup, became the first player since Inbee Park in 2013 to win six times in a season. “I can’t even really gather myself right now with that,” Korda said. “Wasn’t my best stuff out there today but fought really hard on the back nine.” Korda started the day at Liberty National with a two-shot lead, but Green drew level after just two holes and…
In what will go down as one of the more unusual days in Major championship history, world no.1 Scottie Scheffler was released from jail just in time for his second-round tee time and fired a five-under-par 66 to sit just three shots off the lead held by Xander Schauffele at the PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club. As we reported earlier, Scheffler was arrested early on Friday morning after attempting to drive around a police cordon following a road closure after a fatal car crash took place close to the entrance of the club. Unaware of the serious nature of…

In fact, the R&A actually has a Pace of Play Manual, which cites results from a 2015 survey showing that 60% of golfers would enjoy the sport more if it took less time. The 56,000 survey respondents played golf on average twice a week, demonstrating that even those who play fairly regularly have a desire…

Among the featured groups, Rory McIlroy will tee off at 1.15pm UK time on Thursday, as he looks to end a 10-year major drought.
