American Peter Uihlein shot one of the rounds of his life today, a course record 10-under-par 61, to surge into the lead at the halfway stage of International Series England – being played at Foxhills Club & Resort, in Surrey. His round, made up of an eagle, nine birdies and one bogey, was remarkably 10 shots better than his first round and saw him move to 10-under for the US$2million event. The LIV Golf star leads by one from Belgium’s Thomas Pieters – his RangeGoats GC team-mate on the LIV Golf League and joint-first round leader – and surprise-package Robert…
Ireland’s John Moran defied decidedly damp conditions at West Sussex Golf Club to seal victory in the English U14 Championship for the Reid Trophy after an incredible five-way play-off. Moran, Louis Le Sager, Ollie McEvoy, Casper van Rensburg and Fraser Walters all came in on +4 overall, as the rain came down on a blustery final day, meaning the five players would go to a sudden death play-off. Starting on the par-5 1st hole, it was McEvoy’s approach which looked in pole position, but the Irish player three-putted whereas the others managed to make birdie, leaving just four players vying…
In an extraordinary moment at Ross on Wye Golf Club, 7-year-old Walter Hall achieved an incredible feat that has left the golfing community buzzing. This remarkable achievement not only showcases Walter’s budding talent but also his passion for the sport. Walter, an avid sports enthusiast, has been steadily progressing through the seven-stage junior coaching program at Ross on Wye under the guidance of the Tim Hall School of Golf. Despite his young age, Walter’s dedication and hard…
England won the Girls’ & Boys’ Home Internationals for the fourth consecutive time after a fantastic week of golf at Conwy Golf Club in Wales. In a tense final day against Scotland where the winner of the match would be crowned champions of the tournament, England edged the morning foursomes 4-3 before charging to a 9-5 win in the singles. A 13-8 victory overall was enough to be crowned Girls’ & Boys Home Internationals champions yet again, meaning England have won all four events since the combined tournament began in 2021. Day one of the tournament saw England complete a…
Belgium’s Thomas Pieters and Richard T. Lee from Canada had low expectations at the start of this week’s International Series England but that all changed today when they both shot standout seven-under-par 64s to take the first-round lead. They are ahead of England’s Richard Bland, Chinese Taipei’s Chan Shih-chang, Atiruj Winaicharoenchai from Thailand and Korea’s Seungtaek Lee, who fired 66s here on the Longcross course at Foxhills Club & Resort, in Surrey. Pieters, who plays for RangeGoats GC on the LIV Golf League, is still searching for the kind of form that saw him triumph on six occasions on the…
Switzerland’s Morgane Metraux charged out of the gates on Thursday at Le Golf National, recording an Olympic nine-hole record of 8-under 28 and hung on through a bumpy 2-under back nine to seize the lead after round two of the Olympic women’s golf competition. After starting her day with a birdie at the first, the 27-year-old Metraux went on a tear, starting with an eagle at the par-5 third and then reeling off three straight birdies on Nos. 4-6. She capped her front nine with her second eagle of the day, dropping a putt from 15 feet, 7 inches to…
Céline Boutier delighted the home crowds with an opening 7-under 65 that handed her a three-shot lead at the Olympic women’s golf competition. With big galleries gathered for the first round at Le Golf National on Wednesday, world No.7 Boutier was inspired as she recorded eight birdies and one bogey to make a dream start in her medal pursuit. Her total equalled the lowest first-round score at the Olympics, matching efforts by Ariya Jutanugarn in 2016 and Madelene Sagstrom at Tokyo 2020. The Frenchwoman, who won her first major last year on home soil at The Amundi Evian Championship, dropped…
LIV Golf League star Richard Bland admits his ‘inner self belief’ is sky high going into International Series England at Foxhills Club & Resort, as he looks to continue a wonder season that has brought back-to-back senior major titles. The Cleeks GC player romped to victory in the Senior PGA Championship back in May and followed that up the next month with a nail-biting sudden-death play-off victory at the US Senior Open. The 51-year-old also looks set to secure his place in the Lock Zone, the top 24 of the star-studded LIV Golf League, thanks to a number of strong…
Captain Luke Donald will again choose six wild cards for Europe’s Ryder Cup team, with the six qualifiers for next year’s trophy defence taken from just one ranking list. Qualifying points will be earned using a new tournament banding structure weighted towards performances in the majors and biggest PGA Tour and DP World Tour events, but LIV Golf tournaments remain unable to award points. The new points list replaces the World Points List and European Points List which were based on world ranking points and Race to Dubai points respectively. Players must remain members of the DP World Tour to be eligible…
Charley Hull hopes a smoking ban at Le Golf National will not see her Olympic gold medal hopes go up in smoke. The Team GB golfer smokes while out on the course and was dubbed the “female John Daly” by the American media at the US Open two months ago. Hull also provoked a social media stir after signing autographs for a group of young children with a lit cigarette dangling from her lips at Lancaster Country Club in Pennsylvania. But there will be no repeat show at the Olympics in Paris when the women’s competition gets under way on…
