Odyssey unveils Ai-ONE Square 2 Square putter range

Odyssey is expanding its premium putter line-up with the launch of the all-new Ai-ONE Square 2 Square range.

The main point of difference between the new Ai-ONE Square 2 Square putters – which are being offered in Double Wide, Jailbird and #7 designs – and the standard Ai ONE putters that the company launched last year, is the use of a centre-shafted design whereby the toe of the putter hangs up, instead of down or square to the ground in a face-balanced putter.

This is achieved by placing the centre of gravity of the putter on the same plane as the shaft, as opposed to the toe side of it. Because of this, the putter has an aversion to twisting and rotating throughout the stroke, which is known as a ‘zero torque’ design.

While some players like the putter face to move in an arc, opening and closing the face through the stroke, zero torque putters encourage the face to always stay square. This helps players who often try to manipulate the face through impact by self-correcting and staying square without any input from the player.

Added loft
While a traditional putter has about 3° of loft, Ai-ONE Square 2 Square putters have more than 6° because the shaft is placed at an angle, with the design building in a forward press that naturally delofts the face at impact to 3°. By leaning the shaft forward and getting the hands ahead to start, it ensures the head will start square to the target and stay there and it aligns your hands with the face, helping promote the zero torque properties.

Ai-designed insert
Ai-ONE Square 2 Square putters feature an Ai-designed insert which is attached to a White Hot Urethane surface to promote consistent ball speeds across the face. However, due to the placement of the shaft directly behind the insert, the window allowing players to view the Ai-created contours of the insert is covered.

Head options
The Double Wide is larger in shape than the standard Ai One model and is a little bit longer in the blade. The Jailbird has the same alignment finish with the Versa stripes and three dot centre alignment aid and the #7 has the same alignment aid in a classic fang design.

All three models come with Stroke Lab SL90 counterbalanced steel shaft in a choice of Standard, Cruiser and Broomstick lengths.
