INTERVIEW: TIGER WOODS AT TGL

Q. Tiger, I’m curious about your routine on TGL days. You’ve spoken in the past about waking up at 3:00 to get ready to play a tournament. What’s your day look like when you set to compete at 7:00 p.m. here?

It’s different. It was a busy morning with some work stuff that I had to do. I got here, probably didn’t exactly do my normal routine, but hey, it’s just the way it goes.

It’s different playing late at night like this. This is definitely different for us as golfers. But hey, it is what it is.

Q. Tiger, you mentioned in your pre-match interview, this is where your mom last saw you play. What do you remember her impressions of TGL’s potential as an avenue to create interest in golf?

Well, I think that she really enjoyed watching me play. It was awesome to have her in the stands and watching us play and having the kids here and family and friends. It was a great moment. I’m definitely appreciative of her being here.

Q. To expand on the emotions, Tiger, coming in, you mentioned on that same interview that it was the last time she saw you play golf. When did that start hitting you? Was that walk in something that was —

I had a hard time driving down here. I hadn’t hit a golf ball since I played with the President and just put everything away and shut it off. I had a really hard time getting here and then reliving all the moments that we’ve had, my mom, how excited she was to have Charlie drive her here. So those are some great moments and great memories.

It’s been a hard process.

Q. Tiger, you mentioned your kids; how cool is it to have them so close up and personal with you on the green?

Well, I think that they enjoy it, seeing their dad play and compete out there, because at a normal event, you’re not going to be that close and not going to have the sights and the sounds that you normally would have at most sporting events. Most sporting events you sit in the stands and you watch the players play. In our sport, the gallery probably walks more than we do.

Q. You spoke Sunday about the need, willingness to play more golf. Would next week be a consideration for you?

I really haven’t thought about golf, so I don’t think I’m going to be thinking about it for just a little bit here.

Q. There’s always a lot of questions simmering around what happens in the beautiful SoFi Center after the season ends. Any ideas floating around? Anything you can reveal? Is that all sort of in the works?

Well, hopefully next year we can expand on what we’ve done this year. We’ve learned a lot, and I think that we’ve brought a great product to the game of golf, and spreading the game in a different way.

I think you see that with the players and the camaraderie and the experience and the joy that they have being with one another. Because we really don’t get a chance to do that in our sport, for us to come together like this and have fun and entertain and support each other, it’s great.
