England’s Under 16s fought back from being 9.5-8.5 down to win 16-14 in their annual International Match with Ireland held at Burnham & Berrow Golf Club in Somerset.
The two-day event saw Ireland take the advantage on day one, after winning the morning foursomes 3.5-2.5, before the singles matches in the afternoon finished all-square at 6-6.
Nine of the 12 singles matches went to the final hole, showcasing the level of competition and fine margins between the teams.
But a storming final-day showing from England’s youngsters saw them win the singles 7.5-4.5 on Sunday, with both the England Boys’ and England Girls’ teams winning 8-7 overall against their respective counterparts.
England Golf Assistant Performance Manager (Men’s) Jamie O’Connor said: “It was a great morning for us on Sunday, as we managed to overturn the deficit and go on to win the competition, in what was a fiercely competitive encounter.
“The weekend was filled with some spectacular golf, with the two nations’ best young players on display. England Girls’ Summer Carash and Emily Peaford finished the weekend with unbeaten records across their three matches played, with Emily boasting three fantastic wins.
“Annabel Peaford, Ben Sessions and Cameron Mukherjee all managed to win both their singles matches, and it turned out to be a truly great weekend, played in tremendous spirit.
“Burnham and Berrow proved a faultless host for the matches, and both teams are excited for the return fixture next year.”
