Q: Ryan, welcome to the media centre. Tell us about your round. RYAN FOX: Yeah, I mean, perfect start, had a really good chance, gave myself two chances and just hit one off from three out of nowhere. Played the hole pretty badly from there as well and made bogey with the second ball. I thought I was out of the tournament, to be honest. I saw Tyrrell had started well; I saw Jon Rahm had started well, and you know, if you’re five or six back from those guys, it’s going to be tough to claw back. And basically…
Ryan Fox birdied the par-five 18th hole of Wentworth’s West Course to win the BMW PGA Championship by one shot and claim the biggest prize of his career. The 36-year-old New Zealander entered the final day three shots off the lead and when he made a triple-bogey on the difficult third, he could have been forgiven for thinking that his chance had gone. But the resilient Kiwi, who finished third at last week’s Irish Open, picked up two birdies on the front nine to turn in 36 and then came home in 31, birdieing the last from six feet after…
Sussex tour pro Marco Penge produced a dominant display on the final day of the Open de Portugal at Royal Óbidos to secure a maiden win on the Challenge Tour. Penge, who started the day one stroke behind overnight leader Andrew Wilson, carded a two-under-par final round 70 in testing conditions, to go with rounds of 65, 68 and 69, to reach 16 under for the week. He finished four shots clear of Italian Lorenzo Scalise and American Julian Suri who shared second on 12 under. The 25-year-old from Horsham climbs 42 places to 19th in the Road to Mallorca…
Ludvig Åberg will take a two-shot lead into the final round of the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth after continuing his sensational form with a six-under 66 in the third round . The 23-year-old Swede, who is bidding for back-to-back victories after winning the European Masters earlier this month to earn a Ryder Cup call-up, carded an eagle, five birdies and just one bogey to keep the chasing pack at bay as he finished on 16 under. It is six years since Alex Noren became the first Rolex Series champion at Wentworth and Åberg is looking to become just the…
Ryder Cup captain’s pick Ludvig Åberg and fellow Swede Sebastian Söderberg share a one-shot lead after day two of the BMW PGA Championship as the duo produced a pair of big finishes as the sun went down on hot day of high-class golfing action at Wentworth. Early starters Thomas Detry, Masahiro Kawamura and Adrian Meronk set the target at nine under, and it looked like they would lead the way into the weekend, but Åberg and Söderberg had other ideas. Söderberg made a hat-trick of birdies from the tenth, but the 32-year-old was still two shots off the lead before…
While much of the focus in recent weeks has been on the Ryder Cup and its somewhat controversial wildcard picks—in contrast, the Solheim Cup is, without doubt, a showcase of either side’s two very best teams. Solheim Cup 2023: What to expectGolf Care ambassador, Bernard GallacherThe past two Solheim Cups were very exciting contests which both went right down to the wire, with this year’s European captain Suzann Pettersen holing an eight-foot putt on the last green to secure victory at Gleneagles in 2019 and Europe winning by a narrow two points last time out in the US.Europe will benefit from…
Marcus Helligkilde produced a big finish over the West Course at Wentworth to open up a two-shot lead after day one of the BMW PGA Championship. The 26-year-old Dane, who graduated from the Challenge Tour at the end of the 2021 season, birdied his final three holes to sign for a 64 and move to eight under par, ahead of Richie Ramsay and Matt Fitzpatrick, before play was halted due to fading light. All 12 members of Europe’s Ryder Cup team are teeing it up this week and Fitzpatrick was the best of them on Thursday, with Matthew Baldwin and…
Kent’s Kipp Popert produced a late birdie blitz to fight off the challenge of Tommaso Perrino in the final round of the G4D Tour @ BMW PGA Championship and claim his eighth G4D Tour title with a five-shot win. Popert began the final day two shots behind overnight leader Perrino after Monday’s 74, but carded five birdies and two bogeys on day two to finish the tournament on one under par. Popert, who was diagnosed with a form of cerebral palsy called Spastic diplegia that affects his lower body, has now won the past three G4D Tour events following victories…
As the good weather graced the fairways of Bletchingley Golf Club in Surrey, the members of The Social Golfer gathered for its 14th annual major championship, The Social Golfer Open. Unlike previous years, this event was also a chance to celebrate the new partnership that has been forged between the popular online community golf club and the Afriyea Golf Academy in Uganda. This saw both a DJ playing African music on the golf course and a ‘Mud Putt’ to replicate the conditions some of the kids learn to play golf in in Africa. Tournament winners Richard Scott and Judy Lilley…
