Q. DJ, to win this early in the season against this field with that second shot on the last, this has to be really special, even with what you’ve achieved in your career. DUSTIN JOHNSON: Yeah, it’s a great win, and obviously today was tough. I knew it was going to be tough obviously with the conditions. But a lot of really good players were right around the lead. I knew I was going to have to play well if I wanted to win. Obviously making a clutch birdie there on 17 to give me a one-shot lead, then obviously did…
Q. Tell us a little bit about your day. PAUL CASEY: I know it was cold this morning, but it was a perfect day for golf, and this golf course is — the first time I’ve ever played it. It’s actually a great golf course. So happy to be in Vegas, and once I warmed up a bit, I got firing, and really happy with today’s round of golf. Did a lot of things right. I’ve been working on the game very hard through the wintertime, and had a decent result last week in Mayakoba, but I just felt like…
Q. What are you working on right now in your putting? SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: I’m still doing a little bit of the technical stuff. Improving the setup, improving the stroke mechanics. The ball coming off my blade right now feels really good. It’s nice seeing greens like this. The poa (type of grass) last week can be challenging to figure out where you’re at with your putting, and getting on the pure greens like this this week, it’s a bit different but good. Q. How important is pre-shot routine for you on the greens compared to the actual stroke mechanics? SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: I…
The way the $930m initial investment made by Fenway Sports Group into the PGA Tour is to be divided among the players has been announced, with the top 36 players set to share a pot worth a staggering $750m (£593m). An elite group of players will share $750m of equity in the new commercial entity created in alliance with a group of US-based sports team owners in a bid to safeguard the business from the threat of LIV Golf. It was confirmed last week that the PGA Tour had struck a deal, worth $3bn in total, with a consortium led…
Q. You’re about to be the Ryder Cup captain for the second time, so this has been something you’ve been participating in for years now. Do you feel like you have enough energy mentally, physically to stay play at an elite level where you can win golf tournaments, or do you feel like you’ve moved into a new chapter of the career? LUKE DONALD: I would say I’ve changed my expectation a little bit because I have this role that takes up a lot of time in the captaincy. I think as a competitor for so long, you still keep those…
JUSTIN THOMAS INTERVIEW “A handful of players on LIV that would make the PGA TOUR a better place”
Q. Third start of the season, two top 10s. I know you weren’t able to finish the job at Pebble, but just some opening comments on your game entering the Phoenix Open? JUSTIN THOMAS: Yeah, I feel like I’m playing well. I feel like things are continuing to trend in the right direction. Back at a place I really enjoy, and feel like I’ve had a couple chances to win in the past and haven’t been able to. I’m really hoping that this isn’t a sign of things to come for the weather and the PGA TOUR season, how these…
Plans to host the Ryder Cup at Luton Hoo Hotel, Golf and Spa in Bedfordshire have moved a step closer following a decision made at the highest level of government. Luton Hoo Hotel, Golf and Spa’s proposal to build a new championship course on it property was approved by Central Bedfordshire Council in June last year. The hotel’s owners, Arora Group, said it wanted to be able to host the matches in either 2031 or 2035. Lee Rowley, Minister for Planning and Building Safety, said the government would not require the application to be called in for a further planning…

Reigning US Open champion Wyndham Clark was declared the winner of the Pebble Beach Pro-Am in California after a storm reduced the event to 54 holes. The round had already been moved to Monday due to strong winds and rain because conditions were forecast to improve, but officials decided to abandon the event after talks with emergency authorities. Clark shot a course record 12-under-par 60 on Saturday and held a one-shot lead after three rounds on 17 under, with Ludvig Aberg and last week’s PGA Tour winner Matthieu Pavon two shots further back. “It’s pretty surreal right now. It’s maybe not the way…
Joaquin Niemann won the first event of LIV Golf’s third season with a play-off victory over Sergio Garcia at Mayakoba in Mexico. The day ended far better than it had started, with the Chilean’s four-stroke lead having been halved to just two after he was judged by rules officials to have made an incorrect drop during the second round. Penalised two shots, he suddenly found the chasing pack far closer than he would have liked. But the Torque GC captain – who opened the tournament with a 12-under 59 on Friday – overcame the setback, shooting a 1-under 70 to…
