A brand new tour designed to increase playing opportunities for professional female golfers in the UK has been launched today (March 22). The Ladies Pro Series, which is inviting applications for membership for its 2024 tournament schedule from today, has been designed to be complimentary to the existing Ladies European Tour Access Series, with no clashes of dates in a six-event season, with more to be added that initially runs between April and August. The format of each one-day event (18 holes) will see a female professional paired with an amateur partner, with prizes for both the pro’s individual score,…
By Phil Casey Tiger Woods has been included in an 85-man field for the Masters published on the tournament’s official website. Woods has not competed since withdrawing from February’s Genesis Invitational due to illness after six holes of his second round. It was the 48-year-old’s first PGA Tour event of the season and just his second tournament since undergoing ankle surgery in April last year after withdrawing from the Masters during the third round. Woods did not compete again until the Hero World Challenge in December, where he finished 18th in the 20-man field but said he was pleased with…

By Phil Casey Olympic champion Xander Schauffele believes the best is yet to come in his career after narrowly missing out on the Players Championship title. Schauffele took a one-shot lead into the final round at Sawgrass on Sunday and was still in front of the charging Scottie Scheffler when he recorded his fourth birdie of the day on the 12th. However, Scheffler – who had started the day five shots behind – drew level with a birdie on the 16th and Schauffele then bogeyed the 14th and 15th to leave himself with too much to do over the closing…
BY PHIL CASEY Shane Lowry is determined to build on his strong start to the season after making the long journey to Singapore for his final event before the Masters. A closing 66 gave Lowry a share of 19th in the Players Championship on Sunday and came on the back of third place in the Arnold Palmer Invitational and fourth in the Cognizant Classic. Lowry could therefore have been forgiven for taking some time off before the year’s first major at Augusta National, but the former Open champion will instead contest the Porsche Singapore Classic at Laguna National, his first…
Jon Rahm has revealed the menu for his Champions Dinner ahead of The Masters, with the 2023 winner drawing heavily on his Spanish roots and even his grandmother’s home cooking. Rahm triumphed by four shots at Augusta last year to win the green jacket and earn the honour of picking the 2024 pre-tournament dinner. There will be a distinctively Iberian theme this year, with the 29-year-old’s menu starting with mix of tapas and pintxos, including spicy Basque chorizo and even ‘Mama Rahm’s Classic Lentil Stew’. The dish will be made to Rahm’s grandmother’s recipe by chef Jose Andres. ‘He called my…

A big part of knowing how to prepare for a golf tournament is…
BY PHIL CASEY Masters champion Jon Rahm hopes golf can achieve “some type of union” as he set his sights on a Sunday showdown with his PGA Tour rivals at Augusta National. The Tour’s six player-directors met with officials from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) in the Bahamas on Monday as efforts continue to make a deal to end golf’s civil war. The PIF bankrolls the breakaway LIV Golf League, which Rahm joined in a stunning move in December, meaning the majors are now the only events which see all of the world’s top players competing against each other.…

Q. Can you describe the moment when you were watching Wyndham [Clark] line that putt up on 18 and when you saw that thing 360? I’m assuming you had a TV monitor there, right? SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: I was out on the range. I was listening to the crowd noise. I heard a groan, and so it sounded like a missed putt. I haven’t seen his putt yet. Q. When you were sitting on 14 tee on Friday, having the massage, could you have envisioned sitting in that chair right now? SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Yeah, I think so. That’s probably why I kept playing.…
