Charley Hull admitted winning the AIG Women’s Open at St Andrews would be “very special” ahead of the first round which begins on Thursday. The 28-year-old fell short in last year’s competition after being pipped by American Lilia Vu, who produced a brilliant final-round 67 to clinch victory at Walton Heath. This year St Andrews will stage the competition for the third time in its history and is a course that Hull described as giving her “goosebumps”. She told a press conference: “I teed it up on the back nine yesterday morning, and as you walk down 17 and 18…
Perhaps surprisingly, the many health benefits of golf remain largely understated in the main. Some see golf merely as a low-level form of exercise with very little physical exertion involved—but the truth, as those who play will know, is very different. If you play golf, you’ll be well aware of its health benefits. Few things are more satisfying than striking a ball off the turf and seeing it go exactly where you wanted. Then there’s the camaraderie—what other sports give you several hours to walk and talk while playing your favourite sport? Not to mention it takes you to some incredible…
Jose Luis Ballester became the first Spaniard to win the US Amateur when beating 19-year-old American Noah Kent in the 36-hole final at Hazeltine National in Minnesota. Ballester, who turned 21 on the day of the final, took the lead on the second hole on Sunday and never looked back, eventually running out a 2up winner. Ballester went 3up after four holes on two early birdies. He had a 4-up lead at the lunch break. Kent fought back in the afternoon round, holing a long putt for eagle on the 7th hole (the 25th) to move within two. Then, after…
Hideki Matsuyama almost threw away five-shot lead before recovering to win the FedEx St. Jude Championship, the first of the PGA Tour’s end-of-season FedExCup eliminator events. The Paris Olympics bronze medallist retained a healthy lead on the front nine before his challenge seemed to be slipping away as he lost four shots on a four-hole stretch, which included a tee shot into water on the par-3 14th. Matsuyama’s lapse allowed Viktor Hovland to move in front before the Japanese player regained his composure on the 17th with a 26-foot birdie putt to retake the lead by one shot with one…
Brooks Koepka won his fifth individual LIV Golf tournament when beating Jon Rahm in a play-off at Greenbrier in West Virginia. It was the first time the two players have gone down the stretch since Rahm joined LIV Golf at the start of this season, and it was reminiscent of the final round of last year’s Masters – only with a different outcome. Koepka has now won five of the 31 LIV Golf regular-season tournaments that he’s played. No other player has won more than three times. He said Sunday’s win was his favourite. “I think this one just meant…
America’s Lauren Coughlin secured her second victory in three starts after winning the Women’s Scottish Open at Dundonald Links. Coughlin, who won the Canadian Women’s Open at the end of last month, came into the final day leading by one stroke in Scotland. A closing three-under 69, which included five birdies, was enough for the 31-year-old from Minnesota to secure her first on the Ladies European Tour. “It’s unbelievable,” said Coughlin. “Two wins in three events is pretty crazy, but I just stuck in there, tried to stay as present as I could, and got some putts to drop at the end.…

Brancepeth Castle was in great condition as the sun shone and the first two holes of the day saw both make comfortable pars before the first bit of drama arrived on the 3rd. Jensen went…
