Terre Blanche hasalmost everythingyou could want when looking to visit a luxury European golf resort. Located in the heart of Provence in the south of France, the resort is home to two championship golf courses, one of the most impressive practice facilities in Europe, a five-star hotel and an extensive spa and wellness centre.
The resort’s two golf courses, Le Château and Le Riou, offer two noticeably different tests. Le Château is the longer and more challenging of the two, stretching beyond 7,200 yards from the back tees. Le Riou is a shorter and tighter course that rewards accuracy and intelligent course management.
Away from the courses, Terre Blanche is designed to feel like a traditional Provençal village. The accommodation is spread throughout the resort in suites and villas, while the restaurants, swimming pools and wellness facilities make it a destination that should appeal to golfers and non-golfers alike.
Terre Blanche is the highest-ranked French resort in the NCG Top 100s European Golf Resorts list, and it’s easy to understand why. The combination of high-quality golf, luxurious accommodation, excellentfoodand an incredibly peaceful settingmakesit one of the most complete golf resorts in France.
The Golf Courses at Terre Blanche
Terre Blanche provides two noticeably different golfing experiences.
Le Château is the resort’s leading course and, in my opinion, thebetter of the two. It offers the greater challenge for stronger golfers, but its appeal goes well beyond its length. There are several wonderful holes that combine stunning views with demanding and genuinely interesting strategic challenges.
Measuring more than 7,200 yards from the back tees, Le Châteaurequiresboth distance and accuracy. The elevation changes, water hazards and carefully positioned bunkers force you to think about the best angle of attack rather than simply hitting the ball as far as possible.
The standout hole for me was the par-5 6th. It successfully achieves something that is incredibly difficult to get right. That’s a split fairway where both routesprovidea genuine option.
Golfers can choose to play either left or right from the tee, with both sides offering a risk and reward route. There is no single obvious way to play the hole, making it a brilliant example of strategic golf course design.
Le Château alsoprovidessome fantastic views across the surrounding countryside. The course is hillier than Le Riou, but the changes in elevation add to the visual experience. In fact, it helps to create several memorable tee shots and approaches.
Le Riou is the shorter and tighter of the two courses. It requires a controlled style of golf, with golfers likely to use more irons and fairway woods from the tees. The narrower playing areas and more intricate approaches place a greater emphasis on accuracy,positioningand distance control.
There are fewer dramatic standout holes than on Le Château, but Le Riou still provides an enjoyable and varied challenge. It is a course that rewards patience and clever course management, particularly when playing into its undulating greens.
The 9th was the standout hole. It begins with a challenging tee shot and the second isn’t much easier with a long carry across water into an undulating green.
The water makes the approach particularly intimidating, especially when the pin is positioned towards one of the more difficult sections of the putting surface. It is an excellent finish to the opening nine and one of the strongest holes across either course.
Between them, the two courses complement each other extremely well. Le Château provides the more dramatic championship experience, while Le Riou offers a tighter and more technical test that encourages golfers to use every part of their game.
TheAlbatrosGolf Performance Centre
A big attraction at Terre Blanche is theAlbatrosGolf Performance Centre. It’s one of the most comprehensive golf practice facilities you are likely to find at a European resort.
The main driving range has 64 bays spread across two levels. Half of those bays are covered and floodlit with Toptracer technology installed.
There is also an extensive short-game areacontainingoutdoor and indoor putting greens, chippinggreensand practice bunkers. A grass driving range is available during the summer months.
Terre Blanche is also home to theBiomecaswingCentre, which uses biomechanical analysis and modern technology to examine how a golfer moves throughout the swing.
An on-site Callaway Performance Centre provides detailed club-fitting services, while the Terre Blanche Golf Academy offers coaching for everyone from children and complete beginners to experienced amateurs and elite golfers.
Luxury Accommodation
The resort has 115 suites and villas, ranging from Premier and Deluxe Suites to large Prestige Villas with as many as six bedrooms. This means there are accommodation options suitable for couples, golfinggroupsand larger parties.
The rooms have a comfortable and traditional style and each suite has its own balcony or terrace, giving guests a private outdoor space with views across the gardens or surrounding countryside.
The villas provideadditionalspace and privacy and, despite the size and quality of the resort, the accommodation still feels relaxed and homely.
There is also an opportunity topurchaseproperty at Terre Blanche. The resort has several residential areas where plots of land are available. Le Bois deFontmerleis positioned between the two golf courses, while Le Bois Fleuri and Le Bois desRouvièresarelocatedtowards the southern side of the resort.
Food and Dining
The food at Terre Blanche is excellent.It’simmediatelyclear why the resort’s restaurants have received Michelin recognition – with the presentation, service and surroundings all contributing to the overall experience.
Some of the more traditional French options, including duck liver and snails, were not naturally dishes I would usually choose. However, even when the flavours were outside my normal preferences, the quality andcraftsmanshipwere impossible not to appreciate.
Each course was presented immaculately, with the meals designed to become memorable dining experiences rather than simply opportunities to eat between rounds of golf. Dining at Terre Blanche feels like an important part of the visit.
Spa and Wellness Centre
Terre Blanche is not just focused on golf. The resort also has an impressive spa and wellness centre designed to help guests relax and recover during their stay.
The spa includes an indoor swimming pool and an outdoor vitality pool, as well as a sauna, steam room, sensory shower andlaconium. There are also several relaxation areas where guests can switch off after a day on the course.
A range of massages, facial treatments and body treatments are available from the resort’s team of certified therapists. The Fitness Club alsocontainsmodern Technogym equipment, includingPlurimaand Kinesis training stations. Guests can also take part in classes such as yoga, Pilates, circuittrainingand Zumba.
One of the most peaceful areas of the spa is the Zen Garden. This provides a quiet outdoor space where guests can sit, meditate or simply enjoy the Provençal sunshine.

Terre Blanche is one of the most impressive golf resorts in France.
Le Château is undoubtedly the golfing highlight, combining an excellent championship test with memorable views and several wonderfully designed holes. Le Riou provides a contrasting experience, placing a greater emphasis on accuracy,positioningand careful course management.
TheAlbatrosGolf Performance Centre offers a level of practice, coaching and club-fitting support very few resorts can match, while the spacious accommodation and extensive wellness facilities ensure there is plenty to enjoy away from the courses.
The quality of the food also helps to separate Terre Blanche from many other golf destinations. Every meal is treated as a complete dining experience, with meticulous preparation, presentationand service.
For golfers, the biggest attraction may be the opportunity to combine two contrasting courses with one of Europe’s most advanced training facilities. However, the peaceful Provençalsurroundings, luxurious accommodation, excellentdiningand high-quality spa make Terre Blanche a destination worthvisiting in its own right.
