If Jon Rahm needed any reassurance that his shock move to LIV Golf would not harm his chances of winning more majors, he did not need to look hard for evidence. After starting with a four-putt double bogey in last year’s Masters, Rahm ended up battling with Brooks Koepka in the final round and ultimately finishing four shots clear of Koepka and Phil Mickelson. With Patrick Reed another shot behind in a tie for fourth it was a strong showing for the LIV contingent, who enjoyed even more bragging rights a month later when Koepka claimed his fifth major title…
The Professional Golfers Association (PGA) is strengthening its support for Prostate Cancer UK’s Big Golf Race with the aim to get more than 100 members across the UK pledging a free multi-round fourball to provide golfers easier access to conquer the 36, 72 or 100-hole challenge at their club. One of the biggest barriers for golfers taking on the challenge is the availability of multi-round tee times at golf clubs, with over 50% of golfers signing up last year unable to complete the challenge. To support the UK’s biggest fundraising challenge in golf further, participating PGA professionals will be added…
Akshay Bhatia shot an opening nine-under-par 63 to take a three-shot lead at the Valero Texas Open in San Antonio. The American did not drop a shot as he followed four birdies on the front nine with five on the second, including four in his final five holes. Bhatia sits ahead of Brendon Todd and Justin Lower with Max Homa among a group of four players two shots further back. Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy is tied for eighth on three under par after going bogey free with three birdies. WHAT RORY HAD TO SAY The world number two, who recently…
Jon Rahm will defend his title when the 88th Masters takes place at Augusta National from April 11-14. Rahm is bidding to become just the fourth player to win back-to-back green jackets after Jack Nicklaus, Nick Faldo and Tiger Woods. Scottie Scheffler The 2022 champion has been in brilliant form in 2024, winning the Arnold Palmer Invitational by five shots and seven days later becoming the first player to win back-to-back Players Championship titles at Sawgrass. Switching putters on the advice of Rory McIlroy has proved vital, although missed short putts did cost him a third straight win in the…
The changes to the World Handicap System that were announced towards the end of last year came into effect earlier this week [April 1], with golfers up and the down the country now able to enter scores for partially completed rounds, include scores from short courses, and have their scores adjusted when playing in bad weather, among the many updates to the system. The main changes include the following: INCLUSION OF SHORTER-LENGTH COURSES WITHIN THE COURSE RATING SYSTEM The overall length requirements for Course Rating have been significantly reduced. A set of tees on an 18-hole course may now be…
Rory McIlroy believes his lesson with Tiger Woods’ former coach Butch Harmon was “really worthwhile” as he prepares to make his 10th attempt to complete a career grand slam. McIlroy needs to win the Masters to join Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and Woods as the only players to have won all four major championships. The world number two started the year well with victory in the Dubai Desert Classic in January, but his form on the PGA Tour has been underwhelming ahead of this week’s Valero Texas Open. McIlroy revealed on the “I Can Fly” podcast…

Q. This is your first time playing at Doral. What are you hoping to get out of this week in preparation for Augusta? Well, I haven’t seen the course, yet. Not much I can say in that regard. I’ve seen this tournament here many times on TV, and I know how much of a challenge it can be. I think having a high-quality golf course, a high-quality challenging golf course before a major can be a great thing to get yourself ready and maybe work on some of the shots that you may need the week after like they were mentioning.…
Evalu18 has always been about documenting my golf course architecture journey. I’ve been able to see, play, walk, and study some phenomenal golf. Sharing my experience will hopefully encourage you to see golf through more than a laser range finder with a card and pencil in your hand. Even when you’re dew sweeping on your own with a Sunday bag, you’re always playing against at least one other person… the one who laid out the course. (Please note: Golf courses in the United Kingdom & Ireland (unless otherwise indicated) I’ve personally visited. Additionally, there are many golf courses not included…
GB&I has an immense depth of quality golf. I’ve spent a lot of time researching and planning excursions to see the best the country has to offer. Some of these courses are on Evalu18 as I wanted to share some of the research I found or they were recommended from a trusted source. If and when I am able to visit these courses, I will update them and possibly include them on the site.
